Jewelry Care Instructions
We use high quality materials for our jewelry so that it can be worn every day. However, caring for the jewelry properly is essential to maintaining its original quality for a long time!
Here are some tips on how to care for your jewelry based on the materials:
1) Solid Gold
2) Gold Filled & Gold Plated (or Gold Vermeil)
3) Sterling Silver
1) SOLID GOLD
Solid gold jewelry does not oxidize/discolor, allowing you to wear your jewelry daily and everywhere, and it is made to last forever.
Use a soft cloth to maintain the shine and store in a dry and safe place when not worn.
2) GOLD FILLED & GOLD PLATED (OR GOLD VERMEIL)
Gold-filled jewelry is composed of a solid layer of gold (requires at least 1/20th or 5% of its weight) bonded to a base of some metals, and therefore, gold filled jewelry is more tarnish/discolor resistant than gold plated jewelry. Gold plated jewelry has a layer of gold placed over some metals. With good and proper care, both gold filled and gold plated jewelry can be worn daily and remain in its high quality condition for a long time.
Although, gold filled jewelry is good with water, we recommend to avoid the following as much as possible to keep its original condition!
Things to avoid:
• Pools & Hot Tubs
Chlorinated water is very bad for your jewelry - it can ruin your jewelry almost immediately.
• Shower
If you need to shower with your jewelry, make sure you’re using mild soaps and shampoos and dry it/them afterwards.
**For gold plated jewelry we recommend to not shower as it can cause the gold plating to wear off easily **
• Sunscreen, Makeup, Perfume, Sprays, Oils, Cream and Lotions etc.
One tip when using those products is to put on/wear your jewelry after your skin gets dry and clean jewelry after usage.
• Sweat
Avoid direct contact with sweat (including salt water like the ocean!). It is a good idea to take off your jewelry before any workout.
**One’s own body chemistry can also be harsh. I.e. some people are more acidic than others or naturally sweat more than others.**
How to store:
• Wipe the jewelry with a soft dry cloth after each use and store it in an airtight container or bag.
• Avoid rubbing and friction as this will cause the piece to wear down quickly.
Sometimes your environment can cause the jewelry to tarnish easier. For instance, living in humid areas, etc.
In those cases, try to take extra care of the jewelry.
3) STERLING SILVER
Sterling silver is a precious metal and composed of 92.5% pure silver. With good and proper care, the jewelry can be worn daily and remain in its high quality condition for a long time. Sterling silver can oxidize over time but can be cleaned to restore the shine.
Follow the same care instructions as gold filled & gold plated above.
Additional Note (Skin Turning Green):
Although it is very rare, sometimes when you wear your jewelry in any of the condition above, it can cause your skin to turn green. That is due to the chemical reaction of certain substances on your skin with the material of the jewelry.
Some people naturally have high acidity levels that can also cause the reaction of turning your skin green to certain jewelry materials.
